DBT sponsored webinar series on MATLAB Software was planned by the Department of Mathematics. Dr. Vipul Sharma, Assistant Professor and in -charge of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IKGPTU Amritsar Campus, was the resource person for the webinar. The purpose of organizing a series of webinars on MATLAB is to make Mathematics more interesting, interactive and practical. The primary objective of this webinar was to give students an exposure to MATLAB software as one of the most widely used software in various fields. This webinar focussed on the applications of MATLAB for beginners. The event was successful as it was able to attract 44 students and faculty members from other colleges. Dr. Vipul Sharma discussed the importance of MATLAB software in research community and explained how MATLAB is one of the most widely used computational tools in science and engineering. It is helpful for students of Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Engineering. He explained with examples that MATLAB is also helpful for those who do not know anything about Programming. He demonstrated that MATLAB is priceless for generating plots and numerical methods. He explained to students how to use MATLAB for research purposes. He discussed with examples how MATLAB could be used as a tool to diagnose diseases. He encouraged the students to explore the more advanced features of MATLAB like modelling.
He demonstrated that MATLAB fuses computation, and visualization into its programming environment, and is excellent for quickly solving mathematical problems of Integration,Fourier and Laplace Transformation, plotting graphs etc. The Principal appreciated the efforts of the Mathematics Department and encouraged students to learn new tools to remain in touch with the rapidly evolving technology from the angle of employability. He also emphasized that teaching and learning must be application based.
Dr. Rajiv Khosla, the DBT coordinator, said that DBT provides the platform to students in conceptualizing the different concepts of sciences in a holistic manner. He also encouraged the students to learn advanced Mathematical science for interdisciplinary applications.
